In our classroom we work hard to stay positive despite challenges with school work and behaviour. One way to help develop self-esteem is to use affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that we tell ourselves. We have been reading and watching the book Affirmation Weaver from Stress Free Kids. Students made beautiful pictures showing the sea creatures featured in the books along with the affirmations. Jonathan said that I could share the powerpoint that he created. Thanks Jonathan! SuperFlex is a curriculum from Michelle Garcia Winner and Stephanie Madrigal which uses a concept which kids know and enjoy (Superheroes) to teach flexible thinking in a more visual, fun and understandable fashion. (Check out Michelle's website at http://www.socialthinking.com/) Because we are using the curriculum with a larger group I have turned the books into interactive powerpoints which everyone enjoys! Here we learn two strategies for problem solving - thinking about the size of the problem and staying calm through breathing and relaxation. |
